Joe (not his real name) was typical of many smokers; he had started smoking in his teens in order to be “cool.” Now he was short of breath and it wasn’t cool anymore.

We spent 2 hours in the morning using various NLP techniques to discover and clear his smoking triggers. We also made some new neural connections that "re-programmed" him to associate the smell of cigarettes with a smell he detested - burning nylon rope. Then we took a lunch break.

On returning to my office after the break, he reported that on getting into his car, he had automatically reached for a cigarette like always. But when he put it in his mouth, he found that it tasted like burning plastic. Amazed, he yanked it out of his mouth—and  this was before we even did the actual hypnosis portion of the foundation program!

By the end of the day he was a total nonsmoker. Like most of my smoking cessation clients, he reported no discomfort or irritability in the following days. Last I heard (a year later) he was still smoke free.

With the combined resources of NLP, Hypnosis, Time Line Therapy™ & EFT I can help you to become the non-smoker you want to be, often faster, easier, more comfortably than you might imagine. To learn more about these leading edge techniques click here: Private Practice

  • Eliminate the embarrassing "smoker's stink", yellow teeth, discolored nails

  • Save your loved ones from having to witness the horrors of your untimely end when the damage to your body finally catches up with you

  • Do you worry about not being there to watch your children or grandchildren grow up? You can stop shortening your life with every puff in as little as a single day

  • No more self imposed exile huddled out in the rain or cold being judged by others as a "tobacco slave"

  • Wouldn't you rather spend the $1,800- $3,600 per year on something more meaningful to you than tubes of dried leaves that fill your body with toxic chemicals? What would you do with the extra money?

In working with countless smokers
I have found that there are generally two groups.

Group One:
Smokes because it's a habit. They started in order to look cool or to have something to do with their hands. Now they need help to stop. They may have tried to quit before sometimes successfully for a while. But then some stressful event in their lives challenged them and without the tools this program provides, they slipped back. Many of these folks have tried the patch or other methods and either had adverse reactions or weren't able to quit that way. This the majority of the smokers I work with. Many of these people are able to walk away from their cigarette habit for good with the assistance of hypnosis and NLP in a single session. Others need more support and reinforcement but the end result is the same. Becoming a non smoker.

Group Two:
Smokes because they have underlying emotional issues that they have not addressed. They may have already given up drugs and alcohol and now they smoke. Cigarettes may be their only friend. It's a form of self medication.

I can assist both groups to quit smoking but the second group often needs to do some significant foundation work to clear trauma or other emotional issues first before they can even consider addressing the smoking. Then they need a significant follow-up period to ensure they get the emotional support they need to make the deep and profound changes they need to make.

In any case I have several different programs that will enable you to become a non-smoker. Call my office at 203-495-8808 and we'll be glad to set up an appointment for an initial complimentary phone consultation with Mark Shepard or one of his highly trained associates.

Have you ever considered the true cost of your smoking habit?
It's more than just the money isn't it?

  • $5.00 per pack of cigarettes. Multiply this by how many packs a day you smoke.
    1 Pack a day =   $1,825/year
2 Packs a day = $3,650 / year  (actual price in CT $5.12 per pack, as of 9/2006 source: http://tobaccofreekids.org/research/factsheets/)
  • Increased life and health insurance costs
  • Time spent smoking
  • Damage to your teeth and gums
  • Damage to you body, lungs, heart etc.
  • Increasing social ostracism
  • Days and years off of your life
  • What about the cost to the people you love when they have to watch you die a horrible death?
  • Does your self esteem take a hit because you "can't quit?"
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Less energy
  • And you stink!  This means your skin, clothing, breath, hair, car, house....
What's different about my Program?

First of all I have a lot more training than the average hypnotherapist. I am not only a certified master hypnotherapist, I am also a certified trainer of hypnosis. I am currently a PhD candidate in clinical hypnosis as well which has many benefits for you as I am constantly learning and improving my techniques.

In addition I am a certified master practitioner and trainer of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming ) and Time Line Therapy™ two leading edge resources for rapid change that compliment hypnosis perfectly. There are very few NLP practitioners in this area and even fewer qualified to teach it.

Also, I use a technique called EFT (emotional freedom technique ) that is often used by itself with radically positive results.

To learn more about these leading edge techniques click here: Private Practice

I use all of these techniques as necessary and where appropriate. Consider this analogy: who would you prefer to have build your house -  a carpenter with a hammer and a saw or a master carpenter with a whole trailer full of precision tools?

Secondly, unlike other practitioners, I do not usually charge by the hour. I charge a flat fee so you know what it's going to cost up front. My flat fee programs usually end up costing people far less than if I charged the typical  $500 to $1,000 per hour rate of an NLP practitioner with my level of training. My programs are designed to get you results and save you money and the stress of having to pay for follow up visits.

Thirdly, I use all of the techniques in my own life that I will be using with you. Although I was never a smoker, I've overcome and cleared a huge array of other challenges that were just as life threatening and self destructive. I know what it's like to feel helpless and hopeless in the face of a negative behavioral pattern.

Finally I teach my clients how to run their own brains so they can be in charge of their change. Everything we do to stop your smoking habit has powerful applications in your personal and professional life as well. Many of my non-smoking clients have gone on to increase their incomes and improve their relationships dramatically.

Testimonials:

"Mark helped me to stop smoking in a single session. I am now smoke free!" - M.K.

"After working with Mark Shepard I just stopped wanting cigarettes." - J. R.

"I was a two pack a day smoker. Mark helped me to stop in just one session. I had no withdrawal symptoms and I never needed his follow-up sessions." - B. D.

What does it cost?

I get calls every day from smokers who are killing themselves with their habit who expect to pay a hundred bucks and be "cured."

I ask you however to consider what your life is worth? What's your health worth? What's the value of living long enough to see your grandchildren graduate from high school or college?

I recently talked to a potential client who "couldn't afford" to work with me to end his 2 pack a day habit because he was going on a cruise. Now, I'm not judging that. My point is you have to value your life and health and consider the negative effect smoking has on your loved ones.

In other words you  have to put  your money where your mouth is. I admit at first glance, I am not cheap. Your willingness to make a significant financial commitment to becoming a non-smoker is a definitive factor in your motivation to change.

Then when you consider the fact that:

  • You are at the very least going to get $1,800 to $3,600 per year in immediate savings

  • You can come back at anytime for support and follow up sessions for 6 months

  • The tools that I teach you that can improve your life in countless ways,

  • Your lungs will immediately start healing

  • You'll stop stinking

  • You'll start tasting your food again

  • You'll soon be able to climb a flight of stairs again like other people your age

  • Your family will breath a sign of relief

  • You might even get more nookie

  • You'll be setting a good example for your kids

  • You'll no longer have to huddle outside in the rain and snow

  • and on, and on...

It's a no brainer isn't it? The longer you wait the greater the cost to your body and wallet. Call today for your free initial consult: 203-495-8808.

Please Note: free consults available on a first come first serve basis and may be available for only a limited period of time.

Side Effects of NLP / Hypnosis vs. Stop Smoking Drugs

I recently got a call from a client who had come to see me 4 years prior. He was a 2 pack a day smoker. After a single one hour session, he had no cravings, no desire. He even spent time with other smokers who smoked in his presence. Not interested. Compare that to the 10% success rate of "the patch."

He called me because after 4 years of being a non smoker his girlfriend made him jealous. And he "vowed" to "punish" her. His solution? He started smoking again, even though he "didn't really want to." So we did another 1 hour session and he got back on track.

Now compare that to the side effects of the drugs described in this article.

"Side effects of the stop smoking drug Chantix include nausea and vomiting, difficulty sleeping and changes in dreams, and changes in the way some foods taste. The stop smoking drug Zyban can produce dry mouth and sleeplessness, and the nicotine replacement treatments may cause throat irritation in the case of lozenges and sprays, and dizziness or headaches in the case of patches."

Side effects of NLP and Hypnosis?

  • Prolonged periods of relaxation and
  • Spontaneous eruption of laughter and wellbeing
  • Increased control over self and personal mastery
  • Optimum breathing with increased oxygenation of blood
  • Increase in self esteem

and then check out the success rates of these drugs.

"Now that Chantix has been available for a year, its long-term statistics can be compared to those of Zyban. After one year 22% those who used the Chantix for the standard twelve week treatment period remained smoke free; for Zyban the one-year success rate is 15% and for nicotine replacement items like gum, patches, and lozenges, the long-term success rate is 10%."

Because NLP, Hypnosis, Time Line Therapy, EFT and other Modern Jedi techniques don't have big money pushing them (thank goodness) we don't have the kind of empirical proof that some people need.

But consider this. There are no negative side effects and in many people the results are fast and permanent. Isn't that enough value to make hypnosis and NLP worth exploring?  Call me at 203-495-8808.

Article:

Do Stop Smoking Drugs Really Help You Quit?

By Judy Wellsworth Platinum Quality Author

There are estimates the seventy percent--over thirty-one million--of America’s forty-five million smokers either want to quit or have tried to quit and failed. Giving tobacco up for good is one of the hardest things anyone can ever be expected to do. Giving it up without some sort of stop smoking aids, in other words, going cold turkey, is almost impossible.

If you’ve decided that you’ve had enough of your tobacco habit, and are ready to give quitting a shot, don’t be afraid to look for help. You’ll need help from you family, of curse, who will have to bear with you during the early stages of nicotine withdrawal. But you can look for ways to reduce the severity of your withdrawal symptoms, and make life easier for both yourself and those around you.

The Two Approved Stop Smoking Drugs
The most convenient smoking cessation aid is the stop smoking drug; there are two which have been FDA-approved. The older, Zyban, is actually buproprion and has been marketed as an anti-depressant as Wellbutrin for years. When patients taking Wellbutrin for their depression reported that their nicotine cravings were diminishing, the makers of Wellbutrin developed a form of buproprion to sell as a stop smoking drug. It was the only stop smoking drug with FDA approval until May of 2006.

In May of 2006, after having the FDA fast track their stop smoking drug Chantix, Pfizer introduced it to the market. By stimulating the brain to release small amounts of dopamine, the stop smoking drug fools the nicotine receptors into thinking they are getting nicotine, so the nicotine craving diminishes.

As the stop smoking drug takes over some of the job of nicotine, nicotine cravings diminish, smoking no longer delivers the punch it once did, the smoker smokes less, and the nicotine addiction is weakened even further.

Comparing The Stop Smoking Drugs
Now that Chantix has been available for a year, its long-term statistics can be compared to those of Zyban. After one year 22% those who used the Chantix for the standard twelve week treatment period remained smoke free; for Zyban the one-year success rate is 15% and for nicotine replacement items like gum, patches, and lozenges, the long-term success rate is 10%.

Side effects of the stop smoking drug Chantix include nausea and vomiting, difficulty sleeping and changes in dreams, and changes in the way some foods taste. The stop smoking drug Zyban can produce dry mouth and sleeplessness, and the nicotine replacement treatments may cause throat irritation in the case of lozenges and sprays, and dizziness or headaches in the case of patches.

If you are going to use a stop smoking drug to improve you chances of permanently kicking your nicotine addiction, you will, of course, have to consult you doctor. But whether or not you are interested in the drugs, trying to break an addiction is not something you should undertake without talking to your doctor first.
