How many diets have you been on
in the course of your lifetime?

 

How long have you struggled with secret compulsions, anxiety eating, starving and bingeing?

We live in a society that despises us if we don't look like those skeletal thin models.

By week three you are seeing chocolate cake and ice cream everywhere. Someone has a party at work and they bring in donuts and chips and candy and pie and they say, "Oh just have a bite..."

One bite and all the will power and self denial in the world can't hold it back...There is a void that must be filled. And food stops the pain. For a while. And then it starts all over again.

Now you feel the shame of failure, you beat up on yourself, berate yourself for being weak. Then you weigh yourself and somehow in spite of all the agonizing, you've gained a pound or two.

Like so many times before you end up defeated, depressed and perhaps even enraged at the unfairness of it all.

Case Study: Childhood Trauma Linked to Comfort Foods

Sarah came to me frustrated because she would find herself eating Ice cream in large quantities several times a day. She was also addicted to high-carb “comfort foods” like macaroni and cheese. 

At age 5, it was she who discovered the body of her father after his fatal heart attack. She sat with the body for many hours before anyone else came home. Her dad had often taken her for ice cream and had loved macaroni and cheese.

Using Time Line Therapy TM, we released Sarah’s childhood trauma. We also used Time Line Therapy to release her pertinent limiting decisions and unconstructive beliefs. We used NLP Submodality techniques and Swish Patterns to change her internal representation of macaroni and cheese and ice cream.

Result:
Almost a year after our work together, Sarah still hadn’t touched macaroni and cheese. She was able to eat ice cream, but now in moderation. She changed the way she had been eating in general and began to follow a nutritional plan (not a "diet") that worked well for her body. She also instituted a sensible program of moderate exercise. Not surprisingly, she also lost weight. 
 

 
Case Study: Every Diet In The World

Mary had been on every diet in the world at least twice. She had struggled and struggled to lose weight, never losing more than 8 pounds.

She had a number of limiting beliefs and low self esteem issues. She had also had gotten pregnant and married as a teen. The relationship turned abusive and although she eventually left it, there seemed to be some residual scars. 

The day before we were to work together, Mary, “mysteriously” hurt her back. She almost “backed” out of working with me. But I insisted that the back issue was actually part of what was in need of healing and we did several sessions in her living room rather than postpone our sessions. We released her negative emotions (which are often carried in the physical body) and limiting decisions and beliefs about herself. Her  back problem rapidly healed.

Within a week or so she began working out with a Pilates instructor and doing regular cardiovascular workouts. She also had some positive relationship shifts with her current long-term boyfriend. We did NLP Submodality shifts and Anchoring as well as Hypnosis at each of her sessions.

Result: She lost 8 pounds the first week. Note: We had to release her limiting beliefs that 8 pounds was all she would ever be able to do since that’s all she had been able to lose in the past.

After 8 weeks, Mary had lost 20 pounds. The most significant part of this intervention was the lack of stress and increased amount of ease with which Mary shifted her focus from obsession with food to focus on health and well being. She was not on a "diet" She just started making better choices. A number of troublesome issues in her life seemed to resolve themselves. She began to feel more resourceful and positive with fewer mood swings and negative states.
 

 
 

Case Study: Losing Weight On A Gourmet Cruise

Bill was an older gentleman who had been very successful in business. He had done quite a bit of work on himself over the years through traditional therapy. He recently had suffered an injury and as a result had been a lot less active than prior to the accident and had gained a significant amount of weight.

As a child he had always been a bit heavy. He remembered cringing when shopping for clothes being sent to the “husky” department as a boy. We released the negative emotions of anger, sadness, fear, shame, guilt, hurt and a number of limiting beliefs and decisions about himself using Time Line Therapy™.  We did a few NLP techniques as well as hypnosis.

Results:
From our very first session he was able to consistently avoid his previous addiction to gumdrops.

In less than 8 weeks he had lost 19 pounds.

A month or two after completing the initial phase of our work together he came in for a reinforcement session prior to going on a cruise. His goal was to enjoy the cruise and to have lost an additional pound upon returning. He was successful in this.

He delighted in the fact that while his friends on the cruise gained as much as 15 pounds, he actually continued to gently and steadily lose weight.

He came in for an additional reinforcement session before the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. At that point he had lost an additional 10 pounds and was working out 3 times per week with a buddy.

He looked great. Not too long ago I was having breakfast with my son in a local restaurant and Bill came in and sat at the next table. We said our hellos and  then returned to our respective tables. I couldn’t help overhearing him though when he ordered his breakfast. He told the waitress, “Please hold the potatoes”.

Case Study: Eating to Medicate the Pain

Wendy came to me after repeatedly seeing my ad in the newspaper and yellow pages. She had been in a severely abusive marriage and the turmoil was continuing years after the divorce as her ex-husband continually challenged her custody of the children and blatantly refused to pay his court ordered child support.

We did a lot of work with self- esteem using time line therapy™ techniques. During one session after taking a short bathroom break she came back into my consulting room in tears. She had looked in the mirror and for the first time in her life had “forgotten to notice” a certain scar she had on her face she had never before failed to notice.

She was crying because she actually saw herself as attractive for the first time in her memory.

Results: within an 8 week time period after our initial intervention she lost approximately 20 pounds. She came back for a reinforcement session several months later because a new issue had come up with her ex husband. We released her limiting decisions regarding these events. Particularly her need to engage in response to her ex husband's provocation. This was a result of a decision she’d made as a child to “Fight back” on the playground. Once she released this she was able once again to continue eating healthy food in moderate amounts.

Case Study: Only One Visit!

I did a single hypnosis session with a man who was too busy to come back for any follow-up visits. I bumped into him a year later and he had lost over 30 pounds. Of course he said it had nothing to do with the hypnosis!!! Shortly after seeing me he just mysteriously started exercising and eating healthier foods...

 

So what is it that I do that is so different and so effective?

  • The first of these is something called Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP for short.
     
  • The second is a sophisticated kind of Clinical Hypnosis, based on the work of Dr. Milton Erickson, MD. This is not the same as the hypnosis you may have seen in the movies or in stage shows so please be open minded.
     
  • The third is a technique called Time Line Therapy™.
     
  • The fourth is something called EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique.
     
Let me take these one at a time and then I'll explain how I weave them all together and empower you to use them at home at work wherever and whenever you need them.

NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming:
NLP was developed in the 1970's by a physicist named Richard Bandler and a linguist named John Grinder.

Richard Bandler described NLP as "An attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques."

Romilla Read and Kate Burton in their book, "NLP for Dummies" put it this way:

"...NLP enables you to understand what makes you tick; how you think, how you feel, how you make sense of everyday life in the world around you. Armed with this understanding, your whole life - work and play-can become magical."

Think of it this way. NLP is a model of internal and external communication that enables rapid and profound change.

Do you have a computer? Has it ever bogged down or run slowly for some reason?

In many ways we are all like our poor overloaded computers. Some little thought virus or annoying emotional pop-ups get in there and soon the whole thing is sluggish and unresponsive. All our lives we've been programming limiting beliefs and patterns of thought and behavior into our magnificent brains and bodies and these little "thought" viruses are sabotaging the whole system.

I use NLP to help you defrag your hard drive and clear out these "thought" viruses that are affecting your body and life so negatively.

Ericksonian Clinical Hypnosis:
Unlike the often scary depiction of hypnosis on TV, in the movies and at those stage shows where people do embarrassing things like quack like a duck, Clinical Hypnosis is used by Doctors, Dentists, Therapists, and Peak Performance Coaches like myself to help people change.

People don't realize that we spend a good portion of every single day drifting in and out of trance. Have you ever driven down the highway and "spaced out?" Ever miss your exit because you were "somewhere else?" Almost everyone has! But while you were "somewhere else" who was driving your car?!?! Your Unconscious Mind.

Through clinical hypnosis you learn how to communicate with your unconscious mind so that you get the results you want rather than what you've been mistakenly asking for.

For example, if you consistently see yourself as fat and tell yourself so and beat yourself up for being fat, your unconscious mind gets all these images of you as fat and goes about giving you what you've inadvertently told it you want.

Time Line Therapy™ :
Time Line Therapy was created by one of the world's foremost authorities on NLP and Hypnosis, it shares some elements of those techniques but it's distinctly different in some ways.

If NLP is like a laser beam and Hypnosis is like a spot light, Time Line is like all the lights of Yankee stadium suddenly turned on.
 
We use time line specifically to clear old negative and often toxic emotions like anger, fear, sadness, guilt, shame - safely, easily, painlessly and quickly.

This is totally different from "regression" therapy (which I would advise you against).

We use Time Line to not only clear negative emotions and limiting beliefs but to literally program your future.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) :
This is a difficult to describe yet elegantly simple technique that combines NLP, Hypnosis, Psychology and Acupressure. Often EFT works where nothing else will. The beauty of EFT is you can use it anywhere, anytime and it can save you thousands of dollars on therapy!

Here's how I use these cutting techniques to help you to change fast:

First we talk in person over the phone and then we sit down face to face to make sure we are well suited to working together. I don't accept every client who wants to work with me and not every potential client decides to do the work. That's fine.

If I decide to work with you and vice versa, we schedule a full day together for your foundation breakthrough session. For my smoking and phobia clients this is usually all the time they need. For my weight loss and eating issues clients we usually need several 2 hour follow up sessions to complete our foundation work.

The 10 things you must have before permanent positive change can happen.
 
  1. You  must be ready to change for you - not because someone else wants you to.
    The old joke, "how many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb?"  "One. But the Light bulb has to want to change!" is true. If you are not truly ready to create a better life and body, no technique is going to do it for you because you will just resist it on the unconscious level. However, the very fact that you've taken time out of your busy life to read this far indicates you are ready to change.
     
  2. You must address the root cause of the problem, not just the symptom.  The kinds of food you eat. The amount of food you eat. When you eat. Your resistance to healthy moderate exercise. The way you react to stress. These are all symptoms of a deeper problem.
     
  3. You must make the kind of deep commitment to the process of change that eliminates the option of quitting if things aren't completely comfortable.
    By requiring my clients to actively participate in their own transformation and making my guarantee contingent upon their full participation as well as to pay in advance that kind of commitment is built in.
     
  4. You must be willing to "be at cause" in your life rather than be a "victim." This doesn't mean you are to blame it just means you are willing to "own" the choices you've made that got you to where you are. Once you accept your role in creating your current experience you can choose to create something better.
     
  5. You must have the right tools for the job.

    No disrespect to psychotherapists but the idea promoted by Freud that change would be expensive and take a long time is false.   7. You must have a competent coach or therapist you feel comfortable with who can assist you to become aware of those things that are unconscious and who knows what to do with them.
    The coach should have mastery of the tools for transformation as well as the ability to create a safe space for you to do your work. I cannot tell you how many horror stories I hear from my clients about therapists and fitness trainers. If the person doesn't feel right to you don't work with them. You and your coach should take the time necessary to check each other out. There is only so far you can go on your own. I use coaches in a number of areas of my life and it saves a huge amount of wasted time and money.
     
  8. Your coach/therapist should be financially motivated by your success and must not benefit from your failure.
    Again with no disrespect to talk therapy, talking about your problem for 50 minutes a week tends to reinforce and anchor the problem. Therapists love their clients coming back week after week. Who can blame them? A personal trainer wants steady income too. All the other businesses designed to make money off of overweight people benefit from you being a regular life long customer.  The way I've set up my fees motivates me to get you results and move you to self care and success. Fast.
     
  9. You need support and reinforcement not preaching, guilt trips or being shouted at. Your support and reinforcement should also be designed to deepen and strengthen your change, not make you dependent.
     
  10. You need a guarantee and a fee structure that takes away your risk and yet also rewards your efforts and commitment. What therapist or personal trainer you know offers you a guarantee of any kind? I offer a guarantee that keeps us both honest.
